UK Immigration Document Updates

If you have recently applied for indefinite leave to remain or for further leave to remain in the UK you may have noticed that your biometric residence permit has an 'expiry' date of 31/12/2024.

My BRP says it expires on 31/12/2024?

If you have recently applied for indefinite leave to remain or for further leave to remain in the UK you may have noticed that your biometric residence permit has an 'expiry' date of 31/12/2024.

This is NOT the case unless your leave actually expires on that date.

The Home Office are discontinuing the use of BRP cards from 01/01/2025 to be replaced by an online system to check your immigration status, right to work or right to rent.

Your leave continues to be valid without a BRP card and the date of expiry of your leave is as in the letter or E-mail from the Home Office granting you leave. You will not get a replacement BRP card.

In early 2024 the Home Office will announce details of how you can access information about yourself. This will entail setting up a UKVI account for yourself which will be linked to your passport number for ease of travel.

You will be able to generate a 'share code' to prove your immigration status to a landlord or employer.

You can update your personal information in your account for example if you get a new passport.

To create a UKVI account you will need:

Your date of birth

Your BRP number

Your passport

Access to an E-mail address

Access to a smartphone
